  1. United Nations’ International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief is annually observed across the globe on 22 August to condemn the violence and acts of terrorism against individuals of religious minorities, on the basis of or in the name of religion or belief.   
  2. The first G20 film festival, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and India International Centre, commenced in Delhi with the screening of the renowned drama film ‘Pather Panchali’ by Satyajit Ray.
  3. The Indian Navy’s submarine, INS Vagir, has made history by achieving an impressive milestone-it now holds the record for the longest-ever deployment of any scorpene-class submarine. The submarine covered an astonishing distance of 7,000 kilometers on its journey to Australia to participate in joint military exercises.
  4. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a significant step towards advancing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS) within the realm of education.
  5. Indian wrestler Priya Malik has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the second Indian female wrestler to secure the Gold medal at the U20 World Wrestling Championships held in Jordan.
  6. India and Trinidad and Tobago have recently entered into a significant partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to share the renowned INDIA STACK technology which is a collection of open application programming interfaces (APIs) and digital public goods that aims to facilitate identity, data, and payment services on a large scale.

  9. Nagaland’s first Naga Traditional Cuisine lab has been launched at Japfü Christian College, under Kohima district.
  10. In a significant partnership, Axis Bank has joined forces with the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India, to introduce two groundbreaking lending products. These products are powered by the Public Tech Platform for Frictionless Credit (PTPFC), a pioneering initiative launched by RBIH.
  11. Indian men’s hockey team jumped to the third spot in FIH Men’s Hockey World rankings following their Asian Champions Trophy title win in Chennai.

  16. Ron Cephas Jones, a renowned American actor who won Emmy Award twice, passed away on 19 August 2023, at the age of 66.
